What Is Required
Kentucky treats a homeschool as a private school. Notify the local superintendent in writing within the first two weeks of the school year or within two weeks after withdrawal, including each learner’s name, age, and home address. Teach the required subjects in English and keep attendance and scholarship records. KDE’s May 2026 packet states that a certified homeschool must provide at least 1,062 instructional hours over no fewer than 170 attendance days; for a non-certified homeschool, KDE recommends those day-and-hour minimums but does not state them as a minimum school term. Confirm the family’s route before applying calendar language.
