What Is Required
Maine requires a first-year notice within 10 days after beginning home instruction and a continuation notice with the prior annual assessment by September 1 in later years. Provide at least 175 instructional days, cover the listed subject areas, and complete an annual assessment through an approved test, certified-teacher review, portfolio review, or other allowed option. The companion includes the notice, subject assurances, 175-day log, portfolio, assessment selection, and September renewal packet.
Tier 3 State Companion: Editable, parent-reviewable 36-week Curriculum Summary Draft with student and grade/year details, parent and instructor fields, four nine-week review/report dates, and subject-by-subject scope, sequence, objectives, resources, methods, and progress evidence. It also adds initial and continuation notices, 175-day calendar, required subjects, and annual assessment record. Parent review and submission remain required.
